Garden Gym & Workshop

An outbuilding can make the most of your property, free up space in your home, increase resale value and, most importantly, make you fall in love with your home all over again.

You might be surprised just how affordable a custom outbuilding can be - like this stunning wood-framed home gym in Woodcote.

Showing what can be done on a modest budget, Neil Aldridge Landscapes created a bright and uncluttered home gymnasium in one part of this wooden outbuilding and a workshop and walk-in storage area in another.

The aim of this outbuilding project in Woodcote, South Oxfordshire, was to simultaneously declutter the owner's home whilst making the most of this unused space in their garden.

The roof was made from simple oriented strand board (OSB) and covered with a mineral felt top sheet to give the maximum strength for the most affordable price.

For the workshop area the emphasis was on practicality rather than looks, so we left the exposed studwork and a built a walk-in storage area where the home owner has added his own shelving units. The workshop has a separate entrance so that dust and dirt doesn't get into the gymnasium room and a window to give plenty of natural light to work by.

The gym has insulated 10mm plywood walls painted white with a wood effect vinyl floor and attractive recessed downlights. We fitted French doors at one end and a window at the side to make the room fresh, light and airy.

The outbuilding has plumbing as well as electricity - hooked to the main fuse box in the house. Greg from Neil Aldridge Landscapes completed the whole project alone in under a month.
